about

"This might be the ultimate drug record. Or maybe it's just the ultimate drug. It's certainly one of the most confounding things I've heard, and it sure as heck ain't Happy. Mostly 2-chord, 6 minute dirges under a fairly massive wash of almost-orchestral synth, ominously affected guitar, and drum programs. At times I was shocked to realize someone was actually singing in the middle of it all. This must be what it feels like to be chained to a rock at the beach, with huge waves crashing repeatedly on your head. You know they won't kill ya, but ya still can't move, and eventually you're left only with the numbness of knowing you're still alive. This thing made me wanna either A) turn off all the lights and lay on the floor, B) smash everything in the house, C) start a band, and D) go get some fresh air. That's worth something, isn't it? I can't tell if it's just sitting there like a diseased elephant, or if it's taunting me somehow. It's ugly, it's pretty, I hate it, I love it, and I think that's just what they had in mind. That is hardly a recommendation, but it ain't remotely a knock, either."
